Best Spyro Tattoo Designs

Now that we know a little about Spyro the Dragon, let’s take a look at some of the very best Spyro Tattoo Designs the Dragon Realm and beyond have to offer.

Spyro Tattoo

Protagonist of the series, Spyro, is a small but fierce purple dragon whose cheeky and confident character makes him jump headfirst into any and all challenges. Spyro was initially planned to be named Pierre to be a Bart Simpson-type character, which was then changed to Pete.

However, as Disney already had Pete the Dragon, Insomniac changed his name to Pyro to avoid litigation, then finally landed on Spyro. Originally planned to be green, Spyro’s colour changed to purple to make him pop against the many green backgrounds, similar to how his brother franchise, Crash, was made to be orange against his jungle and laboratory environments.

Sparx Spyro Tattoo

Best friend and loyal companion to Spyro, Sparx is a dragonfly who acts as the series life indicator. A healthy Sparx will glow a vivid yellow, but take a hit and he will change to a deep blue, then green if hit again, before disappearing, indicating Spyro is on his last hit before defeat.

Thankfully, eating a butterfly will restore Sparx’s strength, which you can find by flaming or charging many of the small animals or creatures found in Spyro’s World. In later games, Sparx is also a playable character, featuring in some top-down shooting sections, gaining new abilities upon completion.

Hunter Spyro Tattoo

One of Spyro’s closest allies, Hunter, is a laid-back and often cowardly cheetah who first appeared in Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!/Gateway to Glimmer. Hunter’s main task within the game world is to guide the player and offer up challenges to win some orbs, despite the fact that you’re both supposed to be working together to find them.

Possibly Hunter’s most notorious mission is when he gets his feet stuck in rock at Fractured Hills and requires assistance from the Alchemist, whose wayward path often ends in failure until the player can memorise his path. Don’t forget to bring the headbash move before completing the mission, otherwise you’ll need to do it all over again later!

Elora Spyro Tattoo

Elora is a faun who aids Spyro in his quest to defeat Ripto and get to Dragon Shores for his well-deserved break. She first appears in the Spyro sequel, gifting the purple dragon the Avalar guidebook, which logs his adventures.

It was Elora’s quick thinking and the help of the fairies that the orbs were scattered across Avalar before Ripto could get his hands on them to return to his homeland to bring even more chaos to the world.

Srgt. Byrd Spyro Tattoo

Sgt. James Byrd is one of the many playable characters coming from Spyro: Year of the Dragon. He is a flying penguin and military sergeant hailing from Midday Gardens. Sgt. Byrd was raised by hummingbirds, explaining why he can fly and never goes anywhere without his shoulder-mounted rocket launchers.

Sheila Spyro Tattoo

Sheila is a female kangaroo who was the series first playable character that wasn’t Spyro. While in the original Spyro game, Sheila appears as a mostly ordinary kangaroo, in the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, she was given a design overhaul with hair and a safari shirt.

Captured by the Sorcerous as she was deemed a treat, she was placed in the care of money bags before his greed allowed Spyro to buy her freedom.

Moneybags Spyro Tattoo

Moneybags is the greedy money-grubbing bear from Avalar who will do anything to swindle Spyro out of a few of his gems. Moneybags will often be found at key locations across Avalar, blocking progress until Spyro coughs up some dough.

Eventually, he gets his comeuppance when Alora orders Hunter to beat him up and return the gems. In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Spyro (and the player) get to feel the joy of getting payback on Moneybags by chasing him through Midnight Mountain, torching and charging him to get your gems back, and saving a dragon egg he was planning to sell.

Cynder Spyro Tattoo

Cynder is a black dragon from The Legend of Spyro series. She was a servant to the Dark Master Malefor and was the main antagonist of The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning.

Cynder would eventually be defeated and freed by Spyro, and set out to find her own destiny, transforming into a hero and a love interest for Spyro. She was originally designed to be a one-time villain, but Cynder was so beloved by fans that the developers felt compelled to bring her back as a mainstay.

Gnasty Gnorc Spyro Tattoo

A simple creature, Gnasty Gnorc, is the main antagonist of the first Spyro the Dragon video game. Despite the interviewer at the beginning of the game calling him Guh-Nasty Guh-Norc, the G is, in fact, silent.

After being insulted on live TV by the Elder Dragons, he takes his revenge by transforming them into crystal statues. Gnasty Gnorc originally lived in the Dragon Realms, but he found it hard to coexist with the dragons, causing trouble as he learned magic.

He was later banished to the Dragon Junk Yard, which he claimed as his own kingdom and renamed “Gnasty’s World.” Without anyone to command, he found a spell that could turn gems into Gnorcs and began stealing the Dragons’ treasure to create minions to serve his growing kingdom.

Ripto Spyro Tattoo

Ripto is a dinosaur sorcerer and the primary antagonist of Spyro: Ripto’s Rage/Gateway to Glimmer. Hating his small stature, he sets his wrath on the world to prove he can be terrifying despite his size.

Ripto arrives in Avalar due to Hunter inputting his birthday as coordinates, and becomes trapped there when Elora orders Zoe and her fairy friends to scatter the orbs throughout Avalar to prevent him from bringing more trouble. He announces himself as King of Avalar, but is finally overthrown when Spyro defeats him.

The Sorceress Spyro Tattoo

Ruler of the forgotten realms, the Sorceress is a malicious and hungry tyrant who orders Bianca to collect dragon eggs from the Dragon Realms to help bring magic back to the forgotten realms.

The Sorceress once lived alongside the dragons, but banished them over a disagreement. Without the dragons, magic started to fade from her realm, with the portals to their worlds closing.

Bitter and angry, she took on Biance as an apprentice to steal the dragon eggs and return magic to her world, but in reality, she planned to kill the infants and strip them of their wings to create a spell for everlasting life.

Egg Thief Spyro Tattoo

The Egg Thieves are mysterious creatures dressed in robes who often steal precious items such as eggs, treasure, and keys. The thieves often mock Spyro by shouting “Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah” at him, before running away with a burst on speed when the dragon approaches.

Gems Spyro Tattoo

Gems are the main collectable in the Spyro the Dragon series, and are often needed to make progress, be it for the balloon driver in the first game, or to pay Moneybags off in the second and third games.

Gems come in a variety of colours: Red, Green, Blue, Yellow (later changed to Gold), and Magenta, each with a different in-game price.

Crystal Statue Spyro Tattoo

One of the main collectables from Spyro the Dragon, and the reason for Spyro’s quest, the Crystal Statues are the crystalised prison encasement of all the Elder Dragons. The dragons find themselves in this predicament after they insulted Gnasty Gnorc on live TV, leading him to cast a spell imprisoning them in crystal.

Now Spyro must travel across the Dragon Realms to save each of the Elder Dragons, and be given tidbits of advice upon releasing them, or a cheerful, “Thank you for releasing me.”

Dragon Eggs Spyro Tattoo

Dragon eggs are one of the collectables in Spyro and Spyro 2, and are the main collectable in Spyro: Year of the Dragon. These eggs are said to be delivered to the Dragon Realms by Fairies every twelve years and only hatch during the Year of the Dragon.

When a dragon egg hatches, it releases magical energy that can be used to reactivate portals and grant special abilities to those who collect them.

Orbs Spyro Tattoo

One of the main collectables from Spyro: Ripto’s Rage/Gateway to Glimmer, Orbs are energy sources used by residents of Avalar to power their portals. The orbs helped Ripto reach Avalar to begin with, and the fairies scattered them across Avalar to prevent Ripto from returning to his world to bring more trouble.

Now Spyro must collect them to restore balance to Avalar and use the power of the orbs to make a portal to Dragon Shores for his holiday.

Pete Spyro Tattoo

Pete was the very first version of Spyro during the early development of Spyro the Dragon by Insomniac Games. His design was rougher and less expressive, being more like a standard dragon, without the playful personality Spyro is known for.

The name Pete was later dropped to avoid copyright infringement with Pete’s Dragon, owned by The Walt Disney Company, and his colour was changed to purple so as to avoid blending in with any grassy areas.

Crash Bandicoot X Spyro Tattoo

Crash Bandicoot is a genetically enhanced bandicoot created by the villain Doctor Neo Cortex and the star of the Crash Bandicoot series of games. While Crash Bandicoot predated Spyro by exactly 2 years, both having their first release on September 9th (1996 and 1998, respectively), they were both seen as PlayStation mascots and sister franchises.

Pokémon X Spyro Tattoo

Pokémon is one of the most successful and recognisable franchises in the world, originally created by Satoshi Tajiri and developed by Game Freak. The Pokémon game series is all about catching and training Pokémon to form bonds and battle other trainers to grow stronger and become the league champion.

Rayman X Spyro Tattoo

Rayman is the cheerful, energetic hero of the Rayman series, first appearing in Rayman, created by Michel Ancel and developed by Ubisoft. Rayman is a hero who has no arms or legs, with his hands and feet floating independently from his body.

He is a guardian of balance and harmony, protecting his world, often called the Glade of Dreams, from strange and chaotic threats.
